The Meadow - Paradise Lost

Niidud - kaotatud paradiis

The divers and manifold flower meadow is a paradise, a hotspot of biodiversity right in front of our doorstep! „The Meadow – Paradise Lost?“ is an exploration of this colourful habitat. How come this habitat only exists, if it is destroyed regularly? Why do so many creatures make their home in a meadow that is cut down by machines twice a year? Can´t we just leave the meadows alone, let them grow, stop cutting them? This film answers all these questions and the film talks about the drastic decline in divers meadows all over the world. Modern agriculture has brought this habitat close to extinction.

Special Jury Prize
It’s a beautifully informative film close to all Estonians. It portrays meadows and its species that are still in existence. But for how long? We see what happens on the meadows and why it’s important to preserve them. The film broadens our horizons, provides exciting facts and shows both beauty and the drama of Nature.

Matsalu National Park Special Prize
There are few preserved heritage landscapes in Germany, where time, human labor and biodiversity have coexisted for centuries. Jan Haft's film highlights the close relationships of meadow life, but also some dangers. The film uses interesting techniques that bring the macro level of meadows very close to the viewer.
